Supplies: (many are included if you order the kit at www.MotherGooseTime.com) - Paper shopping bag
- Sponge cut in crescent shape
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Masking tape
- Yellow tempera paint
- Shallow container(s) or paper plates
- Crayons
- Glue or glue sticks
- Container(s) for glue
- Paintbrushes for glue
- Yellow crayons, star fruit and/or apple (optional)
Adult Preparation: Download the instruction sheet from the Art Studio image to the right. - Keep bag folded and flat. Cut off a 2 inch strip from the top of the bag through all thicknesses.
- Open the strip; it should be a big circle. Fold the strip in half lengthwise so it becomes 1 inch wide.
- Cut off a second 2 inch strip from top of the bag. Fold in half lengthwise.
- Open bag and fold down the top to make about 1/2 inch fold. Refold the bag flat.
- Draw a pencil line about 2 inches in from one side edge of bag from the top to bottom. Draw similar line 2 inches from opposite side edge.
- Repeat above directions for each bag.
- Put yellow tempera paint in separate shallow container(s) or paper plate(s).
- Optional: Set out the yellow crayons, cut the star fruit into slices for children to dip into yellow paint, and /or slice an apple horizontally to use the star shape in the middle for children to dip into the paint.
Activity with Children: - Dip one side of your crescent sponge shape into paint. Press onto the bag and lift straight up to leave a print.
- Repeat and continue making crescent sponge prints on all sides of your bag as desired. Allow to dry.
- Spread a line of glue along one pencil line. Stick a bag strip to it. Secure strip to bag with a piece of masking tape near top and a piece of masking tape near bottom.
- Repeat on the opposite side of bag with second strip.
- Optional: Use crayons to color and decorate the masking tape. Use yellow crayons to draw stars on your backpack, dip the star fruit into the yellow paint and print onto your backpack, and/or dip one half of the apple into the yellow paint to make star prints on your backpack.
